Our Story

Since 1833
From a lakeside village in the Vosges
Garnier-Thiebaut was founded in 1833 in Gérardmer, a lakeside village in the Vosges region of north-eastern France, when two textile merchants, Virginie Thiébaut and Jean-Baptiste Garnier, were married.
Thanks to the waters of the Vosges and the traditional practice of bleaching linen on open meadows, its white linens became renowned across Europe in the 19th century.
History
Weaving through the generations
1865–1874 Mechanical looms are introduced, and the company becomes the largest weaver in the region.
1944 The mill is destroyed in the war. After five years of rebuilding, the looms start running again.
1985 The de Montclos family takes over and refocuses the company on linens for hotels.
1995 The first collections for private customers are launched.
2006 Garnier-Thiebaut becomes one of the first companies to receive the EPV (Living Heritage Company) label, awarded to French companies with outstanding expertise.
Today, our linens are used in hotels, restaurants and spas in more than 80 countries.

Savoir-faire
Jacquard specialists
From design and yarn dyeing to weaving, finishing, sewing and embroidery, every step takes place in our own mills in Gérardmer.
Starting from original drawings made in our design studio, patterns are woven purely through the interlacing of warp and weft.
The pattern appears on both sides of the fabric, giving damask its characteristic depth.
We dye yarns from a library of over 1,500 colour references, and create custom patterns and logo embroidery for each hotel.
Hospitality
Made for hotel life
Hotel linen must be beautiful, and strong enough to withstand industrial laundering every day.
Before approval, we run laundry tests to check colour fastness, shrinkage and the durability of the finish.
When needed, linens are trialled in test rooms to see how they perform in daily operation.

Made in France
Still made in the Vosges
Around 75% of our employees are hired locally in the Vosges, and our skills are passed on through in-house training.
We hold the France Terre Textile label, which certifies that at least three quarters of production takes place in France.
We are also certified to ISO 9001, 14001 and 50001.
A hydro turbine on the river beside our mill supplies up to 20% of the electricity used for weaving, and 750,000 bees live on our sites.
